HEADACHE

  • According to the National Headache Foundation, more than 4.5 crore people suffer from chronic, recurring headaches and of these, 2.8 crore suffer from migraine.
  • Headaches are the most common cause of absenteeism from work and school.
  • Most children and adolescents (90%) who have migraines have other family members with migraine.
  • Migraine sufferers lose more than 15.7 crore work and school days annually because of headache.
  • During the past year, nearly 90% of men and 95% of women have had at least one headache.
  • Any Headache might be caused by Brain Tumors, Brain Hemorrhage, Stroke, Infections like meningitis, pus or many other serious underlying brain problems.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR HEADACHE LIGHTLY. IT MIGHT SIGNAL SOME SERIOUS DISEASE PROCESS GOING ON IN THE BRAIN
    CONSULT YOUR NEURO SPECIALIST IF:
  • You have three or more headaches per week.
  • You must take a pain killer every day or almost daily.
  • You need more than recommended doses of over-the-counter medicines to relieve headache symptoms.
  • You have a stiff neck and/or fever in addition to a headache.
  • Your headache is accompanied by shortness of breath, fever, and/or unexpected symptoms that affect your eyes, ears, nose, or throat.
  • You are dizzy, unsteady, or have slurred speech, weakness, or changes in sensation (numbness and/or tingling) in addition to your headache.
  • You experience confusion or drowsiness with your headache.
  • Your headaches begin and persist after head injury.
  • Your headache is triggered by exertion, coughing, bending, or sexual activity.
  • Your headache keeps getting worse and won't go away.
  • Your headaches have changed in character.
  • Persistent or severe vomiting accompanies headache.
  • You have your “first and/or worse” headache.
  • Your headaches began after you reached the age of 50.
Seek emergency care if your headache
  • Is sudden and severe.
  • Accompanies a fever, stiff neck, rash, confusion, seizure, double vision, weakness, numbness or difficulty speaking.
  • Follows a head injury, fall or bump.
These signs and symptoms may indicate a medical condition that needs prompt treatment.

The good news for headache sufferers is that once a correct headache diagnosis is made, an effective treatment plan can be started. If you have headache symptoms, the first step is to go to your doctor. He or she will perform a complete physical examination and a headache evaluation. A headache evaluation may include a CT scan or MRI if a structural disorder of the central nervous system is suspected. Both of these tests produce cross-sectional images of the brain that can reveal abnormal areas or problems. Skull X-rays are usually not helpful.

    Strategies other than Drugs

  • You can do certain things that do not involve medicines. Others involve techniques employed by trained practitioners. Many different kinds of "nonpharmacological techniques" are available, including behavioral and physical treatments.
    Behavioral Treatments
  • Brain feedback therapy
  • Relaxation training
  • Cognitive-behavioral training (also known as stress-management training.
Brain feedback is also used for many conditions and disabilities in which the brain is not working as well as it might. These include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder , severe conduct problems, learning disabilities, and related issues such as sleep problems in children, teeth grinding, and chronic pain such as frequent headaches or stomach pain, or pediatric migraines. The training is also helpful with the control of mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, as well as for more severe conditions .Our Center is the FIRST IN INDIA to acquire Deymed BRAIN FEEDBACK machine to treat these problems very effectively.
