Disorders of brain & spine constitute a substantial part of the diseases affecting mankind. They are one of the most common causes of death & disability in the population. Stroke is a worldwide health problem. It makes an important contribution to morbidity, mortality and disability. Head & spinal injuries affect the most productive sections of society thereby adding considerably to the cost of health management & disability. Malignant brain & spine tumors remain a common cause of premature death & disability, particularly in children & young adults. Approximately 5-10% of the population will have at least one seizure during there lifetime. Acute infections of the nervous system are one of the most important medical problems because patient can be saved by early recognition, efficient decision making and rapid institution of treatment. With increasing life expectancy, we are all naturally concerned about the incidence of late- age neuro-degenertive diseases.

Medical history is replete with sagas of physicians & scientists who in their own way pursue dreams of understanding the diseases & alleviate human suffering. It is in this direction that The Brain & Spine Foundation (India) was formed under the blessings of the great philanthropist Mahashay Dharampal Ji, with the able guidance of Prof. Ajay Sharma and with the enthusiastic efforts of Dr. P.S. Bawa.

The Brain & Spine Foundation (India) has been set up with the purpose of developing a base to provide up to date information of neurological problems; their prevention, recognition in time and treatment at the nearest appropriate centre.
